CHFT Development Society

Bringing the next generation of co-op housing to life.
It’s a new day for non-profit co-op housing in Toronto.
The rising cost of housing has generated renewed interest in this long-standing form of affordable community development, and the Co-operative Housing Federation of Toronto (CHFT) is poised to lead the movement with CHFT Development Society.

Created in 2022, the Development Society combines CHFT’s extensive legacy of community-building with the professional development expertise needed to grow at scale. With more than 1,700 homes in our development pipeline, we’re ready to build the next generation of non-profit co-op housing in Toronto.

Housing that puts people first.

A housing co-op is a community where residents — who are called members, not tenants — work together to create a strong and engaged community. Co-ops are governed by members and offer long-term affordability and a stable place to live. Together, CHFT and CHFT Development Society are ushering in a new era of co-op housing in Toronto.
